katie bonham

Biography

Since moving back to London in 2008 from living by the sea in Brighton, Katie’s work has changed considerably. Once being inspires by the organic worlds of the land and sea Katie’s new inspiration is the brick jungle of London and the Thames that runs through its centre.

It is hardly surprising that Katie’s work has taken on a new architectural and historical outlook, for you only need to walk through the city and you will be surrounded by bricks and consumed by London’s rich and long history.

These new works made with London bricks and Thames clay means Katie is ether found down on the banks of the Thames looking for treasures and good mud or on a mission to Peterborough to the last remaining factory that produces London stocks.

London brick being the majority of what London houses, flats and iconic buildings have been made form since the 1800’s are prolific in this city. Katie journeys up to Peterborough to collect a pile of bricks before they have been fired to take them to her studio to build into a wall and carve into historical views, buildings and images of London. Looking at these walls you can imagine them being incorporated into the decor of a house, as a free standing art piece or public art sculpture, they have many possibilities.
